Hi, my name is John Derek Campbell. I go by my middle name, though sometimes that has struggled to be adopted over the years. You can find all about my musings in the posts I share, but if you are short on time, here’s a bulleted list:
- I may be an 80s baby, but I am a child of the 90s.
- A Millennial who still has to have a thesaurus on hand for his Gen Z nephew in most conversations.
- A father to a Gen Alpha, discouraging screen time and encouraging reading and exploring the world as often as I can.
- Far from perfect as any of us, but always glad to learn and grow from my experiences and trials in life.
- Interested in just about any subject (though pop culture is typically not one of them).
- Oh! I almost forgot… the tech stuff:
- I hold several varied certifications acquired over the years, many still active (even old enough to have grandfathered CompTIA certifications from 2010 and prior).
- I can really get down with some SQL.
- PowerBI, Sigma, Qlik, Crystal, SSRS, come at me bro.
- Python is a friend of mine.
- I dabble in some C, C#, HTML, CSS, and even some JavaScript from time to time.
- Arduino offers a world of possibilities and I love tinkering with it!
- Not unfamiliar with the Unity engine and may have made a couple of demo games and simulations.
- Home lab? The networking is set up, but otherwise I am still working with VMs or Docker containers.
- Give me a PC, Mac, or Linux device and I can do pretty well with the first two, but a little rusty on the advanced commands in various Linux shells.
- Lastly, I spent thirteen years trying to get a Bachelor of Science. Whew. It took some time and a couple of rough false starts, but I got there, with an Associate along the way.
Happy coding!
In the meantime, I pray you’ll find the peace and rest we all need in the world. If you feel you lack that, I encourage you to read the verse below and find out for yourself more about the trust and unburdening that can provide much needed healing.
You’re important and you matter, no matter your background and regardless of the words of anyone being disingenious in their use of scripture. I’ll even link to a Gen Z-written article (very well done) that not only empathizes with the skepticism and broken trust that is pervasive today, but explains why and indeed how Jesus demonstrated He was the antithesis of the failures so commonly presented.
With brotherly love,
Derek
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
– Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
